Top Moving Tips

When you're moving, we understand that there are a lot of little details to consider before packing up. Wondering how to move the family pet comfortably? Curious on how to stretch out your moving budget? Not sure how to properly pack your fine china?

Luckily, our professional moving team came up with some answers to these commonly-asked questions. Consult these tips to ensure your move will go smoothly.

1. Always Plan Ahead - Making a schedule, writing out tasks that need to be completed, and keeping a consistent timeline will help you battle the hassle of moving.

2. Take Your Time - Moving is a process that takes time and effort, and you shouldn't plan to get everything done at once. Make time for each step of the process.

3. Declutter - Moving is the perfect time to go through your clothing, belongings, d├ęcor, etc and downsize or be selective about what you're taking to your new place. It helps streamline your packing process.

4. Research The Moving Process - Find articles from others who have undergone a large move, or had a similar experience to yours and find out tips and tricks they wish they had known before hand!

5. Don't Procrastinate Your Packing - Packing everything up is far from fun, but don't put it off til the last minute. Use your decluttering as part of the packing process, and put away things you don't need immediately and get them ready.

6. Get An Estimate, and Budget For Moving - Contact us today to ask about our services, get an estimate, and make a plan to ensure your moving process is as smooth as possible.

Safe Packaging

Making the Move

  • Make reservations on moving vans/full-service movers at least two to four weeks before moving day.
  • Clean out closets, the attic and the basement as soon as the decision is made.
  • Schedule disconnect times for your services such as cable, newspapers and utilities at your current residence before you leave.
  • Don't forget to mail your change of address forms one week before your moving date.
Packing Into A Truck

  • Start packing items you do not need, such as out-of-season items. Move onto the infrequently-used things and leave the necessities out until moving day.
  • Avoid using used boxes, as you can't tell if the box will be strong enough to support your possessions.
  • The heavier the item, the smaller the box needs to be.
  • Use packing tape instead of duct tape.
  • Avoid mixing items from different rooms of the house in the same box.
  • Wrap fine china and precious items with packing paper, as newspaper ink can bleed.
  • Opt for wardrobe boxes to pack clothes from the closets. Suitcases will work fine for clothing inside of drawers.
Heavy Lifting

Moving Day

  • Ask a friend to watch your pets and small children during moving day, since it can be a traumatic experience for them.
  • Compare your inventory list with the movers' list to ensure nothing's been left behind.
  • Once the house is empty, do some final cleaning and sweeping. Do a walkthrough to ensure all boxes have been loaded up, windows are locked and lights are off.
  • Turn down the thermostat and turn off the water heater.
  • Load the box of essential items last so you can have quick access to it when you arrive at your destination.
